Josquin des Prez (1450-1521) was a Renaissance composer mostly of religious choral music. It has proven difficult to detail the life and character of des Prez and a lot of music originally attributed to him has now been given to others. However, one biographer refers to him as a great virtuoso and capable of using satire effectively. This is one of his better known pieces and it translates well to the modern wind quintet.
