Johann Pachelbel, 1653 – 1706, was a German composer, organist and chorister and is responsible for bringing the music of Southern Germany to the fore. His style was uncomplicated and although he could be adventurous, his music tended to be precise and harmonically correct.

This is perhaps his best known piece of music, which is a shame, for he composed some wonderful sacred and secular music. Most people know of his Canon but few realise there is a Gigue attached to it. Consequently, this arrangement includes the delightful Gigue ending making up the Canon and Gigue.
